Rainy Days

So... Monday did not go as planned.  This handsome couple had planned a weekend in beautiful Estes Park to celebrate their 40th Wedding Anniversary. Part of the plan was family photos.
So, a couple of weeks ago, I drove up to Estes to have a look around and scope out the perfect place for the occasion. I found a beautiful spot, gorgeous lake, mountains, evergreens, I even made my family sit there for 2 hours while the sun went down so I could calculate the perfect start time.
We were all set.
Then the forecast came.  100% chance of rain.  We tried to scramble figure out another day, but there were just too many schedules and factors, Monday was our only option.  We decided our best chance would be to meet in the morning, as the heavier rain was scheduled for later in the day.
Shelly talked to their cabin host for some ideas of covered venues just in case.
So, Melia and I headed out super early Monday morning, it rained the whole way.
It was still raining when we arrived and everything was wet, wet, wet! (There would be no sitting on the grass today : (
The lake was no longer an option, we would have been in a muddy mess.
Fortunately, Shelly discovered this amphitheater in the middle of town.
Although it is was dark and the drizzly rain continued, we decided to make the best of it.
Shelly taught me something that day.  She had a fantastic attitude.  Over and over she commented that it is what it is and you just have to roll with it.  I watched as her calm approach to less than favorable conditions keep everyone else relaxed as they managed wet conditions and cold kiddos.  This is the kind of mom I want to be.
It was a good reminder for me that it's the people and the memories that matter the most.
Not the perfect location or perfect weather.
It's about this!!  Dad with his joggers around his ankles, his daughters cracking up and mom, blissfully unaware.
It's about family and all these precious little ones!
So, my hope is that as they look back at these photos in the years to come they will remember the time they spent together, the games they played in the cabin while it rained and the wonderful memories that they made. Happy Anniversary!!
